A stressed mother threw the 6-year old Deaf son into a river, shockingly the deaf boy died being eaten by a crocodiles. In Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada districts Dandeli taluka there is a kali river which is infested with crocodiles. Savitri and her husband, Ravi Kumar have 2 sons- elder one is 6 years and deaf. the younger one is 2 years.

The mother worked as a house help and her husband worked as a mason. They both used to fight regularly over their elder sons disability. He used to blame her but the mother said it was natural and not her mistake. The husband would constantly fight with the wife over their sons deafness. This made the mother unhappy and frustrated.

They had frequent arguments regarding their elder son’s disability. At night after a fight her husband, The mother picked up her sleeping son and threw him into a waste canal directly inked to a kali river that is infested with crocodiles. When she returned home, better sense prevailed and she started shouting. “I threw my deaf child into the river”, she cried and her neighbors rushed for help. There is a video footage that shows the mother screaming. A neighbor hoped that the child would have fallen in the middle of thick tree cover. Search efforts ensued, with authorities and neighbors combing the area.

The neighbors searched for the child and also alerted the police station. Officers from the fire brigade and drivers arrived and started searching for the child. An officer suddenly saw a crocodile holding the boy’s body in its mouth. They could not retrieve the body as it was dark and there was no visibility in the water.

Next day in the morning, the team retrieved the body of the child. There was a severe bite marks on the body and a hand was missing. It was so disheartening! His body was taken to the hospital. Both mother and father have been arrested and a case has been registered under IPC section 109-Abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence and section 302 – murder.

The case has been registered and both has been arrested. The mother Savitri said that everyday her husband used to blame her for their son’s deafness. She said, “I was overwhelmed by the torture and took the step, Savitri, in her defense, stated her my husband is responsible for all this”, she said. Very Shocking.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the dire consequences of unresolved conflicts and societal pressures on families coping with disabilities.
Sadly, a 6 year old deaf lost his life at such a young age!
